Hi, do you know you can create multiple Firefox profile and each of them may have there own setting, own set of addons, and even you can login different mail IDs of same provider. In case if same logon user (on the same computer) is being shared with more then one person or you are using different setting for different work in Firefox, then you can create multiple profile for Firefox for each user or use.
What is Firefox Profile : A Firefox profile is set of files where it save all the user preference, bookmarks, cache, etc.
How is this work : When we install Firefox, it create a default profile, and save all the info there. Each time when you run the Firefox it loads that default profile. By using Profile manager you can create multiple profile and use them when you required.
How to open Firefox Profile Manager :
- Open run command. ( Windows key + R)
- Type and run following command : firefox.exe -p
- It will open Firefox profile manager* .
- Here you have 3 main options, Create Profile, Rename Profile and Delete Profile.
- Also you can see profile name that is already created or exist.
* In case if Profile manager does not opens then it means that Firefox is running, if not visible then might be in background, check task manager.
How to use create multiple Profile :
- Select Create Profile option.
- Click next and give profile name here.
- If you want to use a custom location for this profile then "Choose folder", else leave it.
- Click Finish to create a new profile.
You can also delete and rename profiles by selecting appropriate options.
Other option :
Work Offline - If you select this option for any profile then it will always open in offline mode means without internet.
Don't ask at Startup - If you do not select this then Firefox will always ask for profile to load. If you select this option then it will load default profile every time when you start the Firefox.
How to load desired profile :
By default (if you chose not to ask at startup) Firefox will always load default profile, if you want to use other profile then you can create shortcut for specific profile or use command prompt to start Firefox with specific profile.
1) Command Prompt :
- Open CMD.
- Give following command - "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "Profile Name"
Note : Here path for Firefox for you might be different, also Profile Name is case sensitive.
2) Create Shortcut :
- Create a Firefox shotrcut.
- Right click on shortcut and open Properties.
- Change the target value to this : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "Profile Name"
- Save it. Now when you use this shortcut it will load that particular profile.
Note : Here path for Firefox for you might be different, also Profile Name is case sensitive.
